The official Resolute desk was made from timbers of HMS Resolute, an abandoned British ship discovered by an American vessel and returned to the Queen of England as a token of friendship and goodwill. When the ship was retired, the Queen commissioned the desk to be made and presented to President Hayes in 1880. With the exception of Johnson, Nixon and Ford, every President has used the Resolute desk in the Oval Office or in his personal study. Two modifications have been made to it. One by FDR to accommodate his wheelchair and hide his braces and another by Reagan to fit the chair he brought from the CA Capitol. This reproduction of the Resolute desk has been handmade and hand carved of Honduras mahogany with an Antique Walnut toned lacquer finish with real leather on the top of the desk.
