The Tribute in Light was one of two temorary memorials dedicated to those who lost their lives on Sept 11. 2001. The lights were lit at 6:45 pm on March 11, 2002 the 6 month anniversary of the attack. It continued to light the sky every night until April 13, 2002. Two banks of 44 intense spotlights, each 50 feet square, projected towers of light nearly a mile into the night sky. The intention of the interim lights was to provide all New Yorkers with a place to pay tribute to the memory of those lost in the tragic events of 9/11
