Reproduction of an original painting depicting President George Washington supervising the construction of the White House. With him is the architect, James Hoban, his Commissioners and Master Mason. The following inscription was etched into a polished brass plate that was placed on top of the foundation and below the cornerstone in the southwest corner of the White House. "The first stone of the President's House was laid the 13th day of October 1792, and in the seventeenth year of the independence of the United States of America." The gold egg ornament was hand painted in Poland. It measures 5.5" high and 3.5" wide. Beautiful gift box. 2008
