The Green Room,The White House. Watercolor by Mark Hampton.
Working from sketches he made in the Green Room and from photographs, Hampton was able to capture the detail in the French crystal chandelier, the Duncan Phyfe secretary with its decorative china, and the 1767 portrait of Benjamin Franklin that hung over the fireplace. Holiday greens, red candles, flowers on the tables and a wreath in the window added touches that said Christmas.
Titled, “Green Room at the White House,” the original watercolor was reproduced by Hallmark, which printed 100,000 Christmas cards with deckle edges and 7,500 gift prints.
