Thomas McNight's contemporary painting of the magical Green Room was the art for the official Presidential Christmas card. For the third year in a row, McKnight was asked to design the Clinton Christmas card. True to his style, the artist added fantasy to the historically correct room. His version of Benjamin Franklin over the mantel, his White House over the doorway and a scene from the artist's backyard are McKnight's personal contribution. To position the fireplace and two windows on one canvas, the artist skewed the perspective to bring the Washington Monument into view. To ensure historical accuracy, American Greetings produced the card using fabric swatches of the drapes and furniture the Clinton administration had given them. 300,000 cards were reproduced.
