The 2011 Official White House ornament honors the administration of Theodore Roosevelt( 1901-1909). Theodore and Edith Roosevelt had six children: Alice, Theodore Jr., Kermit, Ethel, Archibald and Quentin.
The front image is derived from a 1901 colorful cartoon of Santa delivering gifts to the White House. "I hear that there are some kids in the White House this year." The reverse side depicts the revelation of Archie's Christmas tree that he had hidden in a closet.
Both reflect the excitement of a young family living in the White House. TR, our 26th president, is considered the first modern President because he significantly expanded the influence and power of the executive office. From the Civil War to the turn of the twentieth century, the seat of power in the national government resided in the U.S. Congress. Beginning in the 1880s, the executive branch gradually increased its power.
