This year's U.S. Capitol Historical Society Annual Ornament is inspired by Capitol Building motifs and holiday traditions. The marble used for the U.S. Capitol in the center of the ornament was taken from the steps to the wing, occupied by the House of Representatives from 1865, when they were installed to until 1995, when after becoming dangerously worn and uneven, the steps were removed for renovation.

The first Capitol Christmas tree was ordered by President Woodrow Wilson in 1913. This gold-plated hand-crafted design features the Capitol Christmas tree topped with the Great Seal.
