More about the ornament
Long before statehood, North Carolina's coast was a hideout for the pirate Blackbeard, who settled near Ocracoke Inlet in 1716 under a quiet arrangement with the colonial governor. The state has also been home to three U.S. presidents born within its borders: James K. Polk, Andrew Jackson, and Andrew Johnson.
Today visitors can tour the Biltmore Estate, the largest privately owned home in the country, or the Cherokee Indian Reservation, home to descendants of the Cherokee people who called this land home long before European settlers arrived. [Read more in the included brochure]
About the 50 State Heritage Collection®
Each of our 50 states have a unique history that we have set out to celebrate with this collection. Each ornament features memorable historical events and fun features that tell a little bit about the state. These ornaments will be released periodically in the order in which the state became part of the United States of America. We hope you'll enjoy these as much as we have enjoyed designing them!
