More about the ornament

  • In 1732, the ship Anne sailed from England carrying 114 immigrants, including a man named James Oglethorpe. He is known as the founder of Georgia. He was a social reformer in England, and that was his motivation in establishing Georgia. He had envisioned a place in which Britain’s poor and those in debtors’ prison could resettle (though interestingly there was no one from debtor’s prison aboard the Anne when Georgia was founded). Oglethorpe imagined a colony where slavery was opposed and there was religious tolerance for all who resided there. [Read more in the included brochure]
