One of the original thirteen colonies, Massachusetts was the sixth state to join the Union. It is perhaps best known for being the landing place of the Mayflower and Pilgrims. The explorer, John Smith, named the state after the Massachusetts tribe. Boston is its state capital and became an important part of the American Revolution. It also sparked the American Industrial Revolution with the growth of the textile mills.

More about the ornament
The Pilgrims arrived in Plymouth in 1620. They were the second group of British settlers to arrive in the New World after the first colony was founded in Jamestown, Virginia, in 1607. The Puritans founded the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
A harsh winter in 1620 had claimed the lives of half of the original immigrants that came on the Mayflower, but then, the Wampanoag tribe taught the Pilgrims to plant corn and survive the wilderness. In November of 1621, the Pilgrims organized a harvest feast in Plymouth to celebrate their first successful crop. Today this event is known as America’s “First Thanksgiving.” [Read more in the included brochure]
